Not Too Shammy

Recently I had to do some shopping for various car washing supplies. The chamois cloth we had bought at our local hardware store was very thin and not living up to expectations. So I resorted to shopping on Amazon to find a better one, which I did, and also got a good laugh out of some of the reviews of shammy cloths at the same time. Our experience with shammy cloths and how it fits in to washing cars is that it is a cloth you can use to dry off the bulk of the water in such a way that it does not leave behind streaks. The cloth typically needs to be damp in damp before using it, and should be wrung out frequently while using it. Apparently customers on Amazon think otherwise.

The majority of bad reviews of shammy cloths on Amazon are people explaining how these cloths arrived damp and when hung out to dry became hard as rock. As though this is something that should not be happening.

Sadly some customers even ended up throwing away perfectly good cloths ☹️

“…put it in the trash.“

Glasses seem like a delicate thing to be wiping with a cloth meant for drying motor vehicles. So maybe this was for the best.

This does not strike me as the correct department to be shopping for hair towels in 😂 The mental image of someone drying their hair with a shammy still makes me chuckle.

Why not buy a microfiber cloth if you know that’s what you want? It’s like rating the kettle you bought badly because it wasn’t a toaster.

Not sure what’s gone, why it’s not my fault, and why the shammy gets a 1⭐️ review for all of it.

Also is it really necessary to shout?

There were even some entertaining customer Q&As:

I think the more important question here is - Where will you be hiding the bodies?

Thanks Ken, very funny.

So one thing Amazon reviews have taught me today is that a decent number of people buy things without actually knowing what they are. Then leave one star reviews for them when it turns out not to be what they expected.
